Kelly’s record

To the editor:

Most Fairbanksans know Mike Kelly as the well-pensioned former chief executive officer of Golden Valley Electric Association who, on his watch, played a central role in creating the Healy Clean Coal fiasco and then retired. This boondoggle will haunt ratepayers big-time.

Virtually all Alaska state, borough and city employees know Mike Kelly as the primary author of the legislation that wiped out their competitive retirement program. Already, our public safety has been compromised by our inability to recruit well-trained/experienced troopers, police officers and firemen. Recruiting and retaining top teachers and the numerous professionals and support staff that keep our state’s infrastructure functioning also is in jeopardy. This too, will be corrected and Alaskans will pay.

However, probably few Fairbanksans are aware that Mike Kelly was the only Interior delegate to vote no on any and all measures to provide energy relief for Interior Alaska residents. He represents District 7, which is the area roughly north of Chena Hot Springs Road, north of Yankovich Road, parts of Farmers Loop and Goldstream Valley, Ester, Fox, Chatanika, Two Rivers and the Elliott and Upper Steese highways.

Since these more fortunate residents of our area have indicated through their representatives no interest or need for energy relief, I suggest they write a $1,200 check to a charity of their choice. The Fairbanks Community Food Bank and the Rescue Mission are especially in need.

Your comments are not only accurate but very insightful into the kind of guy Mike is. An interesting fact is that almost all of Mike's donors to his campaign have been max donors from employees of the Hospital and GVEA. Kelly must be a great representative to some folks, unfortunately people like me in his district don't even get a return call.
