Salty Gravy on tap at the Denali Salmon Bake
Published Thursday, August 21, 2008
HEALY -- When the band Salty Gravy belts out a bluegrass tune at the Denali Salmon Bake on Saturday night, they'll be playing for a purpose.
The band is raising money for the new Denali Arts & Humanities Alliance, a community group whose mission is to keep arts and humanities thriving in the Denali Borough School District. They begin playing at 9:30 p.m.
In addition, Denali musical dynamo Candace Mudge, her new husband Darren Mudge, and Allan Mortenson of Nenana will perform at 8:30 p.m.
The Denali Arts & Humanities Alliance grew out of the school district's strategic planning meeting last spring. Its mission is to keep current arts and music programs, provide humanities options in classrooms, support professional development and find money to make that all happen.
This fundraiser is the first step.
Community groups who created the Alliance include Denali Borough School District, Kids In Motion, Alaska Geographic, Denali Education Center and Denali National Park.
