Do you trust them?

To the editor:
Staying up late this Saturday night, I just read your article regarding our legislators plans for direct energy assistance for the people of Alaska, and I have to confess I am puzzled.
I am puzzled because I wonder if these people are so naive to think that the problems we have with high fuel oil and gasoline are magically going to disappear in the near future?
It seems that way when you read that one member is advocating elimination of the gas tax for three years, while others support various dollar amounts of direct assistance for a year or two. Or perhaps it’s that they think we’re the ones that are naive? That by handing out a few dollars they can then turn around and spend all the excess on their own pet projects?
Perhaps some of these projects have merit, and I for one am all for long term investment in alternative energy. But I also support the notion that the excess revenue now being collected by the state belongs to the people, and as such 10, 15, or 20 percent should go to them first, permanently, with all other money then being invested on these various long-term projects.
After all, do you really trust politicians to spend all that money wisely?

No, I do not trust them to allocate funds to the many communities and programs that need financial backing. You are right, people need to realize that the prices have gone up, we still aren't at the prices most of the world pays at the pump, or to heat their homes. Handouts don't help.Spending some of the excess monies we have as one of the richest states needs to be utilized for programs that need revamping. thanks for your letter Mr. Gould!
I too would love money to go toward alternative energy. There is so much out there to use. If the govt. could step in and help communities make wind energy or large scale solar energy more affordable I know I would love to get on board. To help with the crunch in the meantime, while we all switch from fuel dependency, some form of state relief evenly spread seems needed.
If Obama can give out a tire gauge to fight the High price of Gasoline, I wouldn’t be a bit Surprise to find out that some of Our State Government Rep. will want to Give Out Heating-Oil Dip-Sticks, to fight the High Cost of Heating Oil !
Obama did not give out tire gauges. Smart-ass John McCain did, as a way of making fun of Obama's suggestion that keeping our tires inflated properly could lower our gasoline usage.
It all boils down to these Conflict of Interest and Collusion challenged Legislators prostituting their votes to pass laws, regulations and deregulations, to financially benefit their Corporate Johns and themselves as well as legally shielding themselves.
How else could Exxon Mobil skip out on the laughable amount of small pittance the Neo Con United States Supreme Court Justices told them to pay.
These crooked Republican, Democratic and Independent Legislators are no different than the Neo Con Parasites infesting the Executive Branch and also the Republican Party in Alaska.
akblugirl, they were given out by Mr Obama's staffers in celebration of his birthday.
Where can I get a dipstick? It represents about 16,000 dollars these days. Great post Glockmod23, I am still laughing.
Dipsticks are easy to come by -- every two years they come around asking for votes.
=)
Thanks, McGehee, your comment made my night!
Dipstick. Isn't that what Roscoe P. Coltrane used to call Enos? "Gr, gr...gonna get them Duke boys!"
Oh gee, that just makes me think of Daisy Duke (the original, not the movie substitute). Be still, my heart.
