Woman accused of taking $10,000 from former employer

FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks woman has been accused of loading almost $10,000 of her former employer’s money onto a prepaid credit card.
Melissa L. Carter, 40, has been charged with one count of second-degree theft, a felony.
Carter allegedly put $9,900 belonging to ColorTyme Rent-To-Own onto a NetSpend Visa Card while working as an assistant financial service manager for the business. The alleged theft came to light at the end of June when the money could not be accounted for.
A check of computer records uncovered that Carter had put the money on the credit card while logged into a company computer.
When confronted by police, Carter, who had been employed at ColorTyme since February, initially said she had no knowledge of the missing money. After further questioning, she admitted to taking the money to pay off bills, according to court records.
She also told police that she was borrowing money from relatives and planned to pay back ColorTyme by the end of August, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

A part time second job would have made her just as much if not more. I know what it is to struggle and have taken on two jobs at times.
Some people just don't want to work hard for their earnings. It's easier to steal than commit to another job.
Newsminer... this story shouldn't have comments!!

Lost--you are out of line. Get a life.
Didnt take long for race to come into play.... :(
Don't you think she should be in jail for what she has done. You would think anyone no matter what race, should be in jail for that dollar amount. Shouldn't that be a felony charge. PS. How do we know what race she is, it doesn't say.
