Phillips named new Doyon president, CEO
Published Tuesday, April 22, 2008
The Interior Alaska Native corporation Doyon announced late Monday that it has hired Norm Phillips as president and CEO.
Phillips previously worked as a lands manager with the corporation for two decades. He has also helped direct the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce and the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation.
“I appreciate this opportunity to work with the board and the excellent management team we have in place throughout the Doyon Family of Companies,” Phillips said in a statement released by the company early Monday evening. “And, I am confident that Doyon will continue to grow and prosper.”
Phillips takes over for vice president Jim Mery, who had served as an interim president since board members forced former executive Orie Williams out of office late last year.
Phillips holds a degree in geological engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, according to the company’s release.
“I look forward to working with Mr. Phillips,” Doyon chairwoman Miranda Wright said in the release. “His commitment to Doyon over the past 20 years speaks highly of his dedication to the company.”

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Norm on the promotion! Doyon's Board of Directors couldn't have picked a more humble & honest individual who has shown his dedication to the corporation through the many years of service. Good luck and God bless you!
Go Norm!!!
Finally they made a SMART move. Congratulations Norm! You are well respected, highly liked and will be a fantastic leader for that organization. Way to go!
I will wait to pat someone on the back,
Let's see what he does, or how long this one lasts, eh?
Never heard of him, that must be a good thing...maybe?
Congratulations Cousin Norm, at least the Board has made ONE good decision!!
However, Doyon Shareholders BEWARE!! YOUR Corporation is working very hard to make is VERY DIFFICULT (almost next to impossible) for you to obtain information that you are entitled to!! They won’t even allow you to obtain copies of old Annual Reports without you justifying the need for the information!! Annual Reports give you, the shareholder, financial statements that you can review to see how YOUR Corporation is doing . . . and now Doyon is demanding that YOU justify YOUR need for this information. I know because I just received a letter from them asking me to justify my request for this information.
It appears that Doyon’s legal counsel is still at the beck and call of one or two members of the Board of Directors . . . when they tell him to jump, he asks how high! The Board still hasn’t gotten it . . . they – and the Corporation -- report to the shareholders, not the other way around. Maybe it is time for shareholders to unite and recall several – if not all – of the Board (yes, we can do that) so that OUR Corporation is more accountable to the shareholders and doesn’t continue their extravagant spending habits such as spending thousands of dollars for a “retreat” at a casino in Arizona (and yes it is a really nice place!) or literally tossing millions upon millions of dollars out the Corporate doors and windows. I think it is high time that the shareholders start questioning Doyon’s spending habits. Stay tuned as I will report more!
