Sarah Palin fund managers seek more donations

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The managers of Sarah Palin’s new legal defense fund are asking supporters to generate more donations to help the former Alaska governor pay off a “tremendous” load of legal debts.

E-mails sent out Thursday on behalf of the Sarah Palin Legal Defense Fund link to a page on the fund’s website featuring a U.S. map sprinkled with pink dots signifying friends.

The e-mail asks recipients to share the “campaign” with friends and family, adding, “we can cover the map with Sarah’s supporters across the country!”

Fund manager Tim Crawford, who signed the e-mails, and Palin’s attorney, Thomas Van Flein, did not immediately return requests for comment.

Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, cited the toll of multiple “frivolous” ethics complaints as one of the reasons for her resignation as governor last year. She has said she racked up at least $500,000 in legal fees.

The new defense fund was created on the same day in late June that an ethics investigator announced an earlier fund was illegal. Under a settlement agreement Palin made with the state Personnel Board, the nearly $390,000 collected through the Alaska Fund Trust before her July 27, 2009, resignation is being returned.

Van Flein has said Palin never received any money from the trust, which prompted an ethics complaint against her soon after it was created in April 2009.

No wrongdoing on Palin’s part was found by personnel board investigator Timothy Petumenos. He said Palin acted in good faith and relied on a team of attorneys.

Days after the new defense fund was set up, Crawford said the response from donors was good, but he declined to say how much had been raised at that point. He said many Palin supporters were saying they wanted donations made to the old fund transferred to the new one.

Crawford is the treasurer of Palin’s political action committee, but said the new fund is independent of SarahPAC. He said the fund only needs to file reports with the Internal Revenue Service because it involves a private citizen.

“Across the country, thousands of Americans have stepped forward to help relieve Sarah Palin from the burden of her legal fees,” he wrote in Thursday’s e-mail. “Will you help us spread the news?”

Most of the more than two dozen complaints filed against Palin have been dismissed outright.

One complaint — also investigated by Petumenos — focused on state-paid trips Palin took with her children as governor. That case found vague state regulations but no wrongdoing on Palin’s part. It concluded with a settlement agreement by Palin to reimburse the state about $8,000 for costs associated with nine trips taken by her children.

Another complaint that alleged Palin and some staff members used their influence to get a supporter a job in state government was dismissed with a recommendation of ethics training for a Palin staffer who made questionable comments in e-mails.

In the past year, Palin has reportedly made at least $12 million from her best-selling book and other media deals.

Correction: Her "new book" is canceled. Looks like this is the beginning of the end for Palins fluke celebrity status.

No wonder she's looking for free handouts.

Donations are free handouts.

The only difference between Palin holding her hand out for free money and a bum holding their hand out for free money is that Palin already has twelve million dollars in the bank, and don't tell me she "worked" for that either, someone else wrote the book she already made money from, just like other people wrote the material she's compiling for the new thing that's about to be released.

The only real "work" she does is purely recreational, it's painfully obvious that she doesn't put one ounce of energy into thinking before speaking, her hair and her legs do all the rest...

So, here's the story:

The Clintons set the precedence for Palin.

npinsider -- as it turns out, Palin is not a heartbeat away from the Oval Office and yet, you still believe "How low has the US sunk." That speaks very poorly for the guys that are actually in the Oval Office. That hopey-changey thing must not be working for you.

Once you're elected it stops being about campaign lies, I mean promises, and starts being about money. I think someone told her she'd never make it in politics so she might as well get rich off those she professes to love. What a shameful woman, to profess a great love of Christ and resort to such un-Christlike behavior.

I'm still wondering how in Hades she ever ended up in the governors seat. I shudder to even think she might have been a heartbeat away from the Oval office. How low the US has sunk.

If you're talking about Bristol and Levi, Chadow, they're adults now and not hers to "handle."

It does seem odd that someone who made $12 million last year is asking for help to pay $500,000, at a time when so many Americans are struggling to survive. Maybe her buddies Sean and Rush and Glenn could kick her some cash. They make over a $100 million a year between them. Her legal bill is a drop in their swill-gotten-gains bucket.

Actually though, if Sarah is THAT bad with money, looks like she'd make a GREAT Amerikan politician. :-)

Show Me The Money! You gotta give to Palin--it says so in her Bible. If Sarah Palin had any money sense she would be taking the $12 million dollars she has earned in the past six months and start paying off legal bills--rather than hiring her attorney to write letters begging for more money/contributions, making comments about whether Levi and Bristol have signed reality show contracts; and having Sarah's attorney commenting on Levi's child support payments. This whole thing sounds so dishonest--what kind of quack lawyer goes around begging for more money so that Palin can pay him? Maybe it is time for Todd to go to work rather than acquiring more airplanes and hangars and more snow machines. Maybe it is time for the Palins to stop grousing and being grifters and learn to live on a budget like everyone else. And some people think this Bimbo is qualified to run our Country when she can't even handle her own dysfunctional family??? Wasilla crybabies.

On my score card: 17 complaints were filed.

16 were dismissed and 1 had a negotiated settlement.

Boy does she make the Libs go nutttttttyyy!

12 million is a nice figure. Wonder how the gal who filed all the complaints is doing..

How much did the Democrats pay her? For services rendered to the Obama campaign? And then we have the 400 fake independent journalist's off campaign in kind donations.

In a coming political entertainment news attraction of Charlie Rangle on the rack for income tax evasion who is a member of the House of Rep. and chairman of the committee who writes income tax legislation.

I find myself looking favorably at the Tea Party candidate for Senate.

As I recall the West Point code of honor: "I shall not lie, cheat or steal; nor shall I tolerate those who do."

Go Sarah Go! Field dress some Donkeys.

Sounds like she's learned a couple of things from Bill and Hillary Clinton. They're still raising money to pay off their "debts" from more than eight years ago. This looks bad for Palin.

"Palin acted in good faith and relied on a team of attorneys."

So there's no liability because she's using a "team of attorneys" as a scapegoat? Is Sarah Palin (or any other repub for that matter) capable of taking any kind of responsibility for her/(their) own actions?

Republican- The party of infinite excuses.

Christ, she made 12 million dollars last year. Why should I give up a few meals so I can send her a check for 10 bucks to pay her bills?

The Wasilla Witch has made more than enough money to pay her own bills at the expense of people she lied to, cheated on, double-crossed, etc.

KMA! Stay home and raise your flock of losers.

Judging from your recent photos your just looking for a money tree to cnich up your wrinkles and botox the turkey skin neck you've been growing!

Wouldn't hurt to cut back on the red monkey shoes and $1K outfits either!
