From Wikipedia: MATHCOUNTS is a middle school mathematics competition held in the United States. Its founding sponsors include the CNA Foundation, the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.1 The competition is designed for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

The Fairbanks chapter competition is held at UAF and involves teams from most of middle and some elementary schools in Fairbanks, AK. Children participating usually very good students, top math brights from the town. Top two teams and 3 top individuals going to the State competition. This is a much bigger event than any sport big event in the city. I am very confused it is completely ignored by our local newspaper.
