•The University of Alaska Press has republished one of the classic works of Alaska literature, James Wickersham’s “Old Yukon: Tales, Trails and Trials.” It has long been out of print.

The Tanana Yukon Historical Society is marking the occasion tonight with a presentation at 7 p.m. in Pioneer Hall at Pioneer Park. Copies of the 302-page book will be available for $29.95.

The book includes a new introduction by my brother, UAF History Professor Terrence Cole, and is annotated with new footnotes from Wickersham’s diary that help explain some of the text. My brother planned to be there to talk about the project, but he can’t make it. Since he has told me what to say, I can speak in his place.

In addition, actor Steve Mitchell is to give a presentation in which he plays the role of Wickersham, quoting from his writings.

The public is invited.

Wickersham was one of the founding crooks of Fairbanks. He helped start a tradition that continues to this day.
