FAIRBANKS — An unprecedented November cold snap continues to set records around the Interior, including new lows in North Pole and Fairbanks on Sunday.
The official temperature at the KJNP weather station was 41 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service, eclipsing the previous record set in 1993. The weather station at Fairbanks International Airport reached 37 below Sunday night, which is one degree colder than the previous low, also in 1993.
The Fairbanks area as a whole just closed another record, with its fifth consecutive day of 35-below or colder Saturday. The previous November stretch of 35-below days in a row was just two.
Cold weather continued to hit other parts of the Interior early Sunday, with the coldest temperature at 47 below in Tok.
The average temperature in Fairbanks this week is a low of minus 9, with a high of 8 above zero.
The cold snap is expected to continue through the week. National Weather Service forecasters expect clouds and snow could arrive in the Interior today, causing a modest rise in temperatures but still well below normal.
Temperatures in the hills and higher elevations, which have recently been warmer than the valleys, are expected to turn colder through Tuesday.

"Today, Ridgwell and Daniela Schmidt, also of the University of Bristol, are publishing a study in the journal Natural Geoscience, comparing what happened in the oceans 55 million years ago to what the oceans are experiencing today. Their research supports what other researchers have long suspected: The acidification of the ocean today is bigger and faster than anything geologists can find in the fossil record over the past 65 million years. Indeed, its speed and strength — Ridgwell estimate that current ocean acidification is taking place at ten times the rate that preceded the mass extinction 55 million years ago — may spell doom for many marine species, particularly ones that live in the deep ocean."

"When we humans burn fossil fuels, we pump carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, where the gas traps heat. But much of that carbon dioxide does not stay in the air. Instead, it gets sucked into the oceans. If not for the oceans, climate scientists believe that the planet would be much warmer than it is today. Even with the oceans’ massive uptake of CO2, the past decade was still the warmest since modern record-keeping began. But storing carbon dioxide in the oceans may come at a steep cost: It changes the chemistry of seawater."

Believe it or not, those idiot PhD's have ways of separating natural variations from those produced from greenhouse gases. Hypothesize (or suspect) all you want. For years, experts have been collecting and analyzing data to test their hypotheses.
"Fox viewers are the most misinformed about climate change"

Wow, who would have thought? Now that it has been firmly established that Fox News IS misreprenting the facts, the next question is "WHY?"
People like Cox get the book thrown at them while the assessors keep their high paying jobs and benefits.
The Fairbanks North Star Borough is way too big, it could be it's own state as a matter of fact, the political demographics are also too polarized to effectively represent us. The borough system by it's nature tends to be very autocratic, but we would have to change the AK Constitution I believe if we wanted to change it. It at least needs to be divided east and west, Progressive Liberals supported by UAF are far more to the west and Conservative U.S. Constitutional Purists tend to reside more as you head east of Ft. Wainwright.
My advice is to live the honest life and call the FNSB to re-evaluate your house. And, watch some TBN instead of passing the channel over all the time.
The County of San Diego (California) is multitudes larger then FNSB and they seem to be doing just fine. Including, they have their own County Sheriffs unlike FNSB. But they're a mess of wimps out there with year round 70-90F weather.
This housing stuff is more nationwide then just local, too.

What comments did you post about climate change under the the following article "Drought leaves slim pickings for migrating birds", also in today's Newsminer?
Sometimes I wonder how some people get through their lives so misinformed. And I also wonder whether they trust the education and experience of ANYONE. Do they see a doctor when there's a problem, or treat themselves with eye of newt? Do they refuse to build a house the way it was designed to be built by an engineer?
“In Virginia, the weather also has changed dramatically. Recently arrived residents in the northern suburbs, accustomed to today's anemic winters, might find it astonishing to learn that there were once ski runs on Ballantrae Hill in McLean, with a rope tow and local ski club. Snow is so scarce today that most Virginia children probably don't own a sled.”
In February, 2010, Romm’s tune changed:
"Ideologues in the Senate keep pushing the anti-scientific disinformation that big snowstorms are evidence against human-caused global warming,” said Romm.
And, for good measure, Romm added, "The snow we've seen is entirely consistent with global warming theory."
Ten years ago, David Viner from the University of East Anglia said “Snowfall will become a very rare and exciting event.” “Children just aren’t going to know what snow is.”
I live 33miles above the arctic circle. During summers, I see a lot of methane bubbling up from the ponds, lakes & on the coasts. My sister travels during the summer regularly down the coasts and her and her hubby are always taking pictures of permafrost ice not only melting & dripping but the lands are broken up!
Your comments are funny, and show just how cherry picked opponents to global warming are in their rebuttals.
For one there is a big difference between having ski resorts, and just getting snow in the winter. You can't have a real ski run, if you only get a few snow storms during the year...which is likely about all Virgina gets any more.
Then you go on to quote some dude in England. Did you think for a second that England is an entirely different climate that Virgina or Alaska for that matter...and that he might be talking about English children, and not children everywhere? Snow in England is a rare thing NOW ...and so his comments are quite appropriate if as he predicts England warms up.
I don't think there is a climate scientist alive who is predicting snow will disappear from the entire globe any time soon. Though climate warming deniers seem to think as long as it snows somewhere its not warming up.

Agreed. Anyone with any education knows that weather is an atmospheric phenomenon which would tend to provide evidence suggesting that the planet is not warming catastrophically. It is short-term, proves nothing, and can be utterly ignored. Climate consists of anything even remotely suggestive of catastrophic warming. It is proof-positive that we need more laws, regulation, taxes, and subsidies for the right politically-connected businesses. Thus, a decade of flat, or cooling, worldwide temperatures is WEATHER. A single unusually hot day would be considered CLIMATE.
Only idiots confuse weather with climate.
Do you guys know that the Canadian crude oil will be burned and create carbon dioxide in China if it's not burned in the United States?

I slept soundly last night knowing if the power went off. I could fire up my wood stove and save my life, the lives of my pets and my house from frozen pipes.
